Glorious Patchwork Kaffe Fassett – Glorious Patchwork with Liza Prior Lucy. Potter Craft (September 16, 2008).

Kaffe Fassett quilts are more about colour than tricky designs – the quilt designs use basic traditional designs – mostly one block patterns – or simple squares and triangles in a country garden sort of way – showing off the Kaffe Fassett fabric range. I find some of the designs very overwhelming with the colour pallettes so busy.

But some designs really stand out – I love the jeweled squares – somehow the crazy colour combo works because there are some contrasts that help the eye move around and the Pieced stripes quilt is bold without being overwhelming. I also really like the super triangles – which I think works not just because of the contrasts of colour but also the different sized triangles add a nice element of surprise. Check out this quilt and the Kaffe Fassett flickr group for more images.

Not surprisingly the chapters are broken down into colour groupings – such as pastels, circus, leafy garden, antique stone and Renaissance – with lovely mini essays on colour and design and gorgeous images of luscious quilts and homes for inspiration.

A fantastic book to inspire you to go out of your colour comfort zone – with some easy quilt designs to get you started on this wonderful craft. (and just so you are not confused with the cover – this book was published with two different covers – the hardcover and softcover have different quilts featured)
